4. 제목: Coherent Manipulation of Photons in an Atomic Ensemble
Photons are the fundamental quantum particles of light. Usually, they are propagating very fast, and do not interact with each other. While these notable properties make photons excellent information carriers for future quantum network, scalable photonic quantum technologies require the abilities to store and process the quantum information encoded in photons. These abilities, however, stand in stark contrast to the intrinsic properties of photons as a certain type of mutual interaction between photons is required to process the quantum information in photons.
In this talk, I will describe how the intrinsic properties of photons can be tailored to manipulate the photons using an atomic ensemble. Firstly, I will introduce our research on highly efficient quantum storage of photons based on a novel technique known as gradient echo memory in cold atoms. Next, I will also present the observation of stationary light, by which weak optical nonlinearity could be greatly enhanced toward realizing strongly interacting photons. Finally, a perspective of quantum optics using photon-photon interactions will be discussed.
